Synthesis: Game of Empires and Center Libertarianism

The organism is the unit. Scale it two ways and the rest of this program follows.

Treat organisms as ensembles — soldiers, taxpayers, a workforce, a franchise, a mass — and you get [Game of Empires](/empires). Imperial preference is common. The world oscillates: a knockout produces a unipolar world; the preference is not deleted, so competitors re-enter and the board returns to a multipolar world; bipolarity is a brief freeze when exactly two superpowers exist. Empires vie over hegemonic supremacy — a named mix a pole must take and keep — at the scale that makes a pole a superpower. Recurrence given preference, not a clock.

Keep organisms as sources of their own transitions — the person as unit of title and voice — and you get [Center libertarianism](/center). Keep the Lockean person; refuse title through the scaled firm and the representative office as private legislatures; change species at hired-labor scale; exit by building the alternative. Named for the attempt to reconcile left and right libertarianism at property. The map is where that join sits among the systems — opposite mixed-economy center, between the two anarchist traditions — not a third hypothesis.

Agency is that unit: unread remainder before the act; agency at the time-instance; institutional room as a related quantity. Neither hypothesis is a deduction of free will. A metaphysical libertarian can still build a shareholder oligarchy. A hard incompatibilist can still refuse one. The compatibility map and the two hypotheses are two boards.

Everything else in the corpus is a piece of one of those hypotheses, a reason one of them has not been tried, or a constraint on trying it. This paper is the lock. Argue with the axis papers for the files.

1. From the organism

Paper 01 does not close van Inwagen. It does not have to. Law, ethics, and political economy already spend a unit they have not specified. The working definition is enough to see the species errors: ticker, class, party, “the people” as a mass, a pole’s mix as if it were a person.

Two scale-errors, two hypotheses.

Ensemble at imperial scale. A king who claims from sea to sea is already treating persons as inputs to caloric, force, fiscal, route, energy, money, standard, alliance, courier, materials. Inner conflict is how a mix is lost without a knockout — including how a Lockean unit is lost into a ticker or a mass. Outer conflict is how a mix is lost by collision. That is Game of Empires: not rise-and-fall, an oscillation of polarity as empires vie over the mix.

Source at institutional scale. A structure that leaves persons as sources of their own transitions — standing law, occupancy of what they use, voice that is not a career filter, a plant that is not a private legislature — is the bid. That is Center libertarianism.

Mises’s acting man (Human Action, 1949) is the economist’s cousin of this unit. The file is Foundations of the Right. This program takes the cousinhood. It refuses praxeology as apodictic proof of a title regime. Noble stays adjacent on Mutual Aid. Adjacent is not identity (open problem 38).

2. Game of Empires, driven home

Paper 02 is the file. Hold this, then read the file.

The world oscillates. Unipolar world, then multipolar world, then unipolar again. Brief stints in bipolarity when exactly two superpowers exist. Empires vie over hegemonic supremacy — a named mix of instruments a pole must take and keep — at the scale that makes a pole a superpower. Superpower is not great power. Name the scale with the polarity. Recurrence given imperial preference, not a 250-year clock.

That is the hypothesis, compressed. The rest of this section is the same claim unpacked so it cannot be misread as rise-and-fall, as “many empires” for 1945–91, or as a crown.

Oscillation, not a story

Imperial preference is common, and old. The board starts when kings declare the horizon — Sumer, not Rome. Once more than one polity has that preference, collision is the generic state: multipolar competition is the default. A knockout — Akkad on the alluvium, Rome on the Mediterranean, the United States in 1991 on the planet — produces unipolarity. Unipolarity does not delete the preference. Successor elites, border kingdoms, later great powers re-enter with the same claim-type. The board returns to many. That is the oscillation.

Bipolarity is not a third default. It is a two-player freeze: two superpowers, everyone else secondary. Cold War 1945–91 is the load-bearing planetary case. Rome–Carthage 264–146 BCE is bipolar at Mediterranean scale. Do not upgrade every two-player war to system bipolarity. Do not flatten 1945–91 into “many empires.” The freeze is brief relative to the life of the board. Then war, collapse, or exhaustion, and a new pole — or a return to many.

Superpower is the scale of the prize

Great powers can ignore one another in some theaters. Everyone must price a superpower’s reach. No ancient king is a superpower in this sense; reserve the word for a planetary board. Calling Sargon a superpower in the 1991 sense is a category error. When this program says “unipolar,” it always names the scale.

Hegemonic supremacy is what they vie over. Not a single crown: a named mix — caloric and water, force, fiscal extraction, routes, the energy unit, money and clearing, standard-setting, alliance lock-in, courier, critical-material processing. A pole that takes the mix has to keep spending on it. Losing one instrument can unmake the rest. Follow the Oil is the energy instrument at section depth. Propaganda is the content of courier. Grain, then coal, then oil, then the sibling unit. Energy abundance as post-scarcity cargo does not retire the board; it changes the unit the board will fight over next.

Planetary, so you can see it

The early board is regional. The planetary oscillation is late, and it is the one the domestic join actually meets:

2008– is the live return of many. United States still strongest, not alone. 2025–26 is verification, outcomes open. A drill is not a confession. New data is not a landing.

Belt, not the core

The belt can be revised without killing the core: Fed as hybrid LOLR after 1907; petrodollar as invoicing plus recycling, not a 50-year treaty; Chimerica as staged unbind; 2010–22 as the economic war before kinetic; 2001–26 wars as tent-pouring. Dalio’s eight gauges and the inner/outer pair are taken; his 250-year one-empire clock is refused.

What this hypothesis does to CenLib. A domestic stack that cannot clear, eat, or organize without a pole’s permission is still on the board. Ostrom’s seventh principle — external recognition of the right to organize — is what a pole can refuse. SWIFT, frozen reserves, a rare-earth unplug, a strait closed: the economic form of the unplug is now dated. Extra-hegemonic standing-up or simultaneous transition is open problem 14. Do not leave it as a hope. The oscillation does not pause for a property join.

3. Center libertarianism, driven home

Paper 05 is the file. The hypothesis, compressed:

Keep the person as the unit of title and voice. Self-ownership is an agency claim, not world-ownership (Cohen 1995). Consumptive and personal title stay. Productive title at hired-labor scale changes species. No listed stocks or bonds. Nested direct assemblies; sortition in the agenda layer because elite theory is a constraint. Method is a named hybrid: agorism for withering, Bakunin for the firm. Not violent means. Not a coup. Offered as what a later material situation will need.

Why the name is the claim. Left libertarianism (Déjacque 1857) diagnosed dominion and then, in the applied line, staffed an office that did not retire. Right libertarianism (Russell 1955 / Nozick 1974) kept the person as unit and then walked that unit through a joint-stock person. The join is at property. It is not a Nolan midpoint and not a rebrand of the US party. The left file is Fractures. The right file — Locke, laissez-faire, Mises, the word — is Foundations of the Right. Elite theory, and the democracy that has yet to be tried, live on Center, where the polity axiom is.

What this hypothesis does to Empires. A polarity model with no domestic claim is a board on which every move is a pole’s mix. CenLib is the proposed domestic response. It does not, by itself, end an arms race. Without something like broad or extra-hegemonic transition, the board and elite capture topple it. That tension is the program. It should stay visible.

4. How they lock

Three constraints, not a slogan.

Outer. Isolated exit fails. A pole can refuse the right to organize, cut rails, freeze reserves, close a strait, spend a processing chokepoint. Inner conflict on the Empires paper is why mixed constitution is unfinished. Outer conflict is why a local stack is not a world. Ostrom 7 is the named hinge. The oscillation is that outer constraint in motion: a unipole can unplug; a return of many is a security dilemma, not a holiday.

Inner. Elite capture reconstitutes oligarchy inside a franchise — Michels in the party, a ticker in the plant, staff in the agenda. That is Center’s polity file, and Empires’ inner-conflict pair. Replacement tech under shareholder primacy is a reason not to hire, and so a reason not to trigger species-change. Staying in Game of Empires while rolling that tech out is the warning of the papers together. Harari is a historian predicting, not a seer.

Unit. Both hypotheses spend Paper 01. Empires is what happens when organisms are treated as ensembles at imperial scale. CenLib is a bid to leave them as sources. The 1789 word is the unit-claim. The 1955 word is not a substitute. Bequest is not fitness. Biology does not write title.

Biology. The economic models those hypotheses sit among are pictures of agents in a limited-resource environment, borrowed while fitness and inheritance were still ill-defined. They boil down to competitive or cooperative systems. Fascism is survival of the fittest at all levels. The party-state argues cooperation and commands it. CenLib is the attempted bridge. Nature, seen fully, is both. A society is proof. A garden is proof. Two apples, or an orchard: scarcity can be fought over or planted past. The models look irreconcilable because the biological definitions are not closed. Mutual aid is that file. Equilibria is why the game you write down is the same fight: PD is the two apples; stag hunt is the orchard; hawk–dove is struggle as a strategy. Game theory has more to say than one matrix. It still does not pick a title-regime. Do not wear Huxley or Kropotkin as proof of either hypothesis.

The lock is the program. Isolated CenLib is a seminar. Isolated Empires is a board with no domestic claim. Together they are one research programme with two hard cores. The biological-economic joint is why the domestic claim cannot wait for biology to finish, and cannot pretend biology has finished.

5. What the other papers spend on those two

Not a restatement. The remainder, after the files have spoken.

The point of the stack, together: the unit is ill-defined, and we still have to build; the warrants were borrowed while ill-defined; the economic models are irreconcilable while competition, cooperation, scarcity, fitness, and inheritance are not closed; the word was captured twice; polarity does not pause for a domestic join; the remaining fight is property at scale, under an outer board that can refuse the right to organize. CenLib is the proposed join — including the attempted bridge of the two ecological costumes. Game of Empires is why the join is not a closed room.

If a sentence on this page could have lived at section depth on one of those papers, it should have. The lock is the remainder.

6. Axioms of the two hypotheses

Not a third constitution. The constraints each hypothesis will not silently drop.

Empires. Imperial preference is common. The world oscillates: multipolar default; unipolar knockout; bipolarity a brief freeze, not many empires. Superpower ≠ great power. Name the scale. Named mix must be kept — hegemonic supremacy is the prize. Inner and outer are a pair. Recurrence given preference, not a clock. 2025–26 is verification.

CenLib. Person as unit of title and voice. Property triad. No listed residual. Nested assemblies with allotted agenda. Named hybrid method. No violent means. No seizing the office. Elite theory as constraint. Productive commons as CPR and as a stag hunt with monitoring. Biology does not write title. Neither Huxley nor Kropotkin as proof. Simultaneity specified or dropped.

Shared. Date every captured word. Open problems stay visible. No listed stocks or bonds as a walk-back. Nature, seen fully, is both competition and cooperation; do not pick a costume.

Which axioms, if dropped, kill which hypothesis is open problem 36. Do not add axioms to look more scientific.

7. What would make them science

Claiming to run as science runs does not make it so. Lakatos’s research programmes are a better description than covering-law science, and better than a manifesto.

Game of Empires. Hard core as §2: oscillation given preference; named mix; superpower as scale. Protective belt as the gauges, rails, wars. Tests already asked to fail: 2018 Section 301; 2022 freeze; 2025 rare-earth unplug; Epic Fury 2026, outcome open. What would make it more science: polarity codebook (open problem 5); energy-unit succession codebook (30); inner-conflict metric (31); scoring networks against states (29); a named falsifier (35). Honest label: a prospected historical-social model. More specified than a slogan. Not a covering law.

CenLib. Hard core as §3. Axioms can already constrain design. The stack is not operational, so it is not a tested social science. What would make it science: threshold rule (8); capital without dominion (9); agenda jury (10); mixed constitution (15); proviso at scale (32); bequest without dominion (33); elite circulation that is not a personnel story (37); then a field test that is not a coup. Honest label: axioms now, stack prospected. Offered as what a later material situation will need. No crystal ball.

What this program will not do to look more scientific. Average the eight gauges. Write a 250-year clock. Write a finished constitution to hide open problem 8. Treat praxeology as apodictic. Treat Noble as a deduction of free will. Treat Harari as a prophet. Date 2025–26 as a landing. Hide elite theory so the assemblies look easy. Flatten 1945–91 into “many empires.” Call Sargon a superpower.

8. What this paper does not fake

It does not restage laissez-faire or Mises — those live on Foundations of the Right. It does not restage elite theory or the untried democracy — those live on Center. It does not collapse axes. It does not treat Game of Empires as a law of nature or CenLib as an operational constitution. It does not advocate violent means. It does not list stocks or bonds. It does not write a polarity codebook it does not have. It does not treat the two hypotheses as one deduction of free will.

The honest status is the program’s: two hypotheses grown from the same ill-defined unit, a lock between them, a stack of papers that support each without becoming one slogan, and a list of specs that are not yet specs.

9. Pressure tests

• “This is the hub restated.” The hub is a map. This paper is the lock: organism scaled two ways; outer, inner, unit; what each axis spends on which hypothesis; scientific status of the two, not of a pile.
• “Empires is just rise and fall.” No. Oscillation of polarity given a shared preference. Unipolar knockout, multipolar default, bipolar freeze. The prize is the mix at superpower scale.
• “The Cold War was multipolar.” It was not. Two superpowers, everyone else secondary. Bipolarity is a brief freeze, not many empires.
• “The two hypotheses are one deduction of free will.” Paper 01 is the unit both spend. It does not close van Inwagen, and it does not have to. A compatibilist and an incompatibilist can still fight over the firm. Two boards.
• “Isolated exit is enough.” Ostrom 7. A pole can refuse the right to organize. Open problem 14. The oscillation does not pause.
• “CenLib is not scientific, so drop it.” Axioms can constrain design before a stack is operational. Dropping it because the threshold rule is unfinished is how past attempts papered joints.
• “Game of Empires is already science.” It is a research programme with dated tests. The codebooks are missing. Open problem 35 is the falsifier.
• Violent means, listed stocks, a finished constitution, a 2025–26 landing. Refused, as everywhere else in the corpus.
